Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga in which postures are performed while seated, standing and/or lying down with the aid/support of the chair. It is a great form of practice for those who find a typical yoga session too challenging, particularly to assist those with balance issues or anyone who has trouble getting down to and up off of the floor. Many standard yoga poses can be modified for chair yoga, including backbends, twists, hip openers, forward folds and even core exercises. Hence, just like a regular yoga practice, it increases flexibility, strength and body awareness. Suitable for all levels, this class may also include pranayama/breathing techniques to promote focus, mental clarity and relaxation.
